There is a widening trend at American colleges and universities to channel students' foodie passions into classrooms, labs and campus gardens. An estimated 30 U.S. colleges and universities have formal interdisciplinary food studies programs that offer degrees or minors. This fall, new programs opened at UC Berkeley, University of the Pacific and Syracuse University.

Pacific established its food studies master's program "in restaurant-obsessed San Francisco", enrolling 14 students this past fall. Pacific's Director of Food Studies Ken Albala believes colleges are catching up to public interest in food: "You can talk about food from an intellectual standpoint and not just what tastes good."

At the annual Faculty Years of Service Luncheon on March 24, 2016, President Eibeck and Provost Pallavicini honored faculty members celebrating their anniversaries of service at Pacific, ranging from 5 to 30 years. Seven faculty members celebrated 30-year anniversaries and, in total, 61 faculty members celebrated a total of 880 years of service at Pacific. The President and Provost acknowledged and thanked the faculty members for their many years of superb teaching and scholarship at Pacific.
